“Don’t You Think? Sing-Off!”

In just over a month of it being out, here are versions of Don’t You Think? that have been sent to me from all over (USA, Holland, South Africa, Australia, Switzerland… bananas!).  Blown away completely.

The creativity shown, and just the fact that people have taken time out of their day to do this, is really humbling.  So good man…  Check some of them out:

Barry Southgate is a new Australian singer/songwriter and his single, Don’t You Think?, has just been released on iTunes everywhere this past week. His EP, Epitome, will be released 1st quarter of 2011, with LA photographer, Steven Taylor (John Mayer, Bruno Mars, Jordin Sparks, NeYo) doing the cover shoot next month.

Here is his single:

South African native Barry Southgate (now based in Australia) first came to public attention as a top 24 contestant on Australia Idol a few years back, and has since gone on to work with some of the country’s most popular talent, including Guy Sebastian and Delta Goodrem.  He’s now focusing on his own career, recently self-releasing his first official single “Don’t You Think” and working on an EP for release in early 2011.

“Don’t You Think” has definite Bruno Mars vibes, but with a bit of a breezy island feel thrown in.  It’s a solid little pop number for an unsigned artist, and a nice indication of things to come from his EP.

Check it out below, and head on over to Barry’s official website to find out more about him.

Snapped | Woman’s Day

Recently got snapped by paparazzi while out hanging with my friend, Stan Walker, in Sydney.

Turns out some of those shots made their way into the latest issue of NZ Woman’s Day: Royal Engagement Souvenir Special Edition.  Hilarious (haha…).

Could have sworn we were barely cab-hailing for more than just a few minutes..?  The paps are sneaky!

Thanks Janet Shaw for the pic.

Feature | The C.S. Perspective

Here we have an up-and-comer from all the way down under. This would be Australian singer and songwriter, Barry Southgate, who just released his debut single, Don’t You Think? The single is lifted from Southgate’s upcoming EP entitled Epitome, slated for release in the first quarter of 2011. LA photographer, Steven Taylor (John Mayer, Bruno Mars, Jordin Sparks, Ne-Yo, etc…) will shoot the cover for the project next month.

Don’t You Think? is that simplistic organic sound made very popular by Jason Mraz. It’s not a carbon copy as Southgate’s has a unique style to him. Although the song is very cool and catchy, we want to hear more before we can have a solid opinion on him. But in the meantime, check out his official site HERE and purchase Don’t You Think? on iTunes.

Calling All Singers!!

Hey everybody!

In conjunction with the release of my new single, I’ve teamed up with Vegas Clothing to hold the “Don’t You Think? Sing-Off!” competition.

How it works is you record your own rendition of the single – whether it’s with full band, stripped down with acoustic guitar/piano, acapella, or even just singing along to the actual recording – and upload it to YouTube.  Mp3’s are accepted as well, but it would be preferable if they were uploaded to YouTube in video form.  You then e-mail your YouTube links (or videos & mp3’s) through to thebcsmovement@gmail.com.  Entries close December 20th, & the winning entry drawn on Christmas Eve will receive an exclusive prize pack including:

* A Barrington bow-tie.

* An autographed poster.

* Vegas Clothing merchandise.

This competition is open to EVERYONE.  Whether you’re actually an aspiring singer, or just think it would be fun to give a shot, it’s all welcomed.  It’s also open to both guys & girls of all ages (Vegas Clothing actually makes women’s merchandise now as well!).  Lastly, this is an international thing, so it doesn’t matter whether you live here in Australia or in the Amazon jungle.  As long as you have access to a camera & the internet, you’re good to go!

If you need to brush up on the lyrics/melody, click on the pic at the top of this article, it will take you straight to my song.  There you’ll find lyrics too.  Remember, entries close December 20, so warm up those vocal cords & get singing people!

Memories Of Calcutta

How could I forget?

As I sit here the day after returning to my comfortable life in Sydney, I just can’t shake vivid images of what I saw in Calcutta (India) that have been etched into mind.  This tour has been one of the most impacting experiences I’ve ever had…

Joyce Meyer’s Festival Of Life (with Darlene Zschech) went amazing.  With each night, the number of people who came out from across India only grew larger, despite sky-high temperatures.  One family – though the husband only gets three days off a year – travelled almost 2000 miles on those days off just to bring his family.  Wow…

I feasted on some of the best food.  Even bumped into reality TV personality, Tiffany “New York” Pollard while there (as you do haha…).  There were lots of fun times for sure.  But for me, the most memorable moments were off stage…

The day we visited Mother Teresa Of Calcutta Centre had such an effect on me.  Visiting her tomb, walking where she walked… Seeing the actual room she resided in for all those years – a humble, simple, tiny space with what only barely resembled an average-sized bed, a little table & not much else…  It’s like you could feel the weight of what this woman carried just being there.  Unbelievable.  It’s not a feeling I could ever really verbalize or muster up on this blog.

Then visiting the orphanage, holding those babies & coming face to face with unspeakable poverty – 0n top of everything else – was like, “Man…”.  It’s a very confusing, somewhat unjust, thing to go from your comfortable world one moment, to the absolute lowest of the low the next, then back again.  Made me feel, like, “What am I even doing?”

I’m still processing it all…
